アーロンの新曲、"The Answer"がリリースされました！Joe Iconisのアルバムの中の1曲で、ミュージカル"THE BLACK SUITS"の曲です。（こういう場合「新曲」と言うのだろうか…？）

ロングアイランド郊外にある高校のガレージバンドが、「セント・アンズ・バトル・オブ・ザ・バンド」で優勝しようとするロック・ミュージカル。
2人のティーンエイジャーが大人になっていく過程で、どうやって本当の友達になるかを学ぶ物語。 夢、血、ポップタルト、レコード、ドラッグ、青髪、セント・アン・バトル・オブ・ザ・バンド、そしてロックンロール・ミュージックの永遠に変わらないカッコよさを描いたミュージカルです。

未来が全然見えないけれど、動き出すための答えを探す19歳の男の子の歌。アーロンの歌声が、この年頃のどうにもならない惑いを思い出させて、いいですねー。切ないような気持ちになるこの歌をどんな想いで歌っているのかを知りたくて、訳してみました。（勉強用の試訳です。転載不可）

学校をやめてバンドだけやりたいって、
どうやって家族に言う？

燃え始めたら、
燃え尽きるまでどれくらい時間がかかるのかな？

船体で出火したら、デッキに燃え広がるまでの時間は？

鉛筆を置き、紙を裏返す

時間切れだ

特に、“When a fire starts in the hull, how much time do you have before it spreads to the deck?(「船体で出火したら、デッキに燃え広がるまでの時間は？」)”や、”What's the furthest distance a ship can be from shore before it loses its signal?”(「信号が途絶えるまでに、船は岸からどこまで遠くに行けるか」)という問いには、哲学的な深みを感じます。

ディア・エヴァン・ハンセンのWaving Through a Window の”When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?”を思い出したよ。

アーロンの声から、アイデンティティや、実存や、未来について思い惑う気持ちが切実に伝わってきます。

でも最後に、その問いが試験問題だったとわかる。いろいろ想いに耽ってしまって何にも書けずに時間切れ。あーあ、人生ってね…。と最後にクスリと笑わせる歌い方もかわいい。

アーロンが鉛筆持ってレコーディングしているのも、試験気分なのかな。
